Coconut is not a nut nor a fruit, but rather it is a delicious seed, which is good for the body, but it must be balanced out with other foods. Many people believe it is bad because of the fat it contains, however all over the world coconut is consumed on a daily basis. They are cheap, found year round, and contain the most delicious milk inside of them. As well, all of the coconut can be used for something. Even better, coconuts are not only used for food consumption, they are used in soaps, shampoos, candles, oils, and the list goes on. They do not rot, can be stored for long periods of time, and do not need refrigeration. All around, coconuts are an excellent and sustainable food source. Coconuts are the largest seed in the world and grow at an alarming rate. Nearly one third of the worlds population sustain themselves from coconuts.
Coconut is extremely nutritious! It is full of fiber, mineral, and rich in vitamins. Coconuts are classified as "functional foods" because they provide more than just food. Coconut oil is especially valuable because it is thought to have healing properties. It is used as a traditional medicine among many populations around the globe. The coconut palm is so revered among its worshipers that it is referred to as "The Tree of Life." Many research has been conducted to prove the medicinal qualities that coconuts provide. It has been found to kill off bacteria, protect against osteoporosis, functions as an antioxident, promotes weight loss, if often used to prevent wrinkles and stretch marks, and a plethora of other healthy benefits.
Not too long ago coconut oil got a bad rap because of the high fat content, but make no mistake, coconut oil possesses good fats and is still considered the healthiest oil on earth. As a matter of fact, there are many studies published online that confirm coconut oil lowers the risk of heart disease. Although coconut oil is full of saturated fat, it is the best of all fats because it is a non hydrogenated oil with medium fatty acid molecules. This type of fact actually protects the body and is confirmed that it indeed reduces cholesterol and lowers the blood pressure. To conclude, coconuts have never been proven to be a horrible food to eat. For that matter, no natural foods have been proven bad for the body, especially if consumed and balanced out with each other. In no way, shape, or form, is raw coconut bad for the human body.
